DIY Kite Competition

 The National Cherry Blossom Festival is hosting a kite contest! See rules and registration information below.

Rules

1. Participants are not allowed to use glass-coated kite string.
2. Only one kite may be entered per person/group.
3. Participants must only fly a registered and self-assembled kite. The participant who flies a kite for a group entry must have helped to assemble the kite.
4. Participants must not fly kites or copies of kites that have won prior DIY Kite or Smithsonian Kite Festival competitions. Additionally, adults may not assemble from a kit or purchase their kites, youth categories 1 and 2 may not purchase kites, and group competitors must not purchase kites. Adults may not build kites for group competitors.
5. Kites must be flown at a minimum altitude of 100 feet.

Please keep in mind that:

• The competition may be suspended for any reason.
• Kites will be judged on how participants fly and handle kites, visual presentation of kites, originality, and fundamental design.

Registration Information

If you would like to participate in the DIY Kite Competition, please send a picture or video of your kite! More updates on the DIY Kite Competition coming soon.

IF YOU ARE AN ADULT (16 and older), you may compete in the following categories:

• The Grand Prize: Must handmake and fly your own kite.
• The Theme Award: Must handmake and fly your own kite as well as represent the announced theme.

IF YOU ARE A YOUTH, you may compete in the following categories:

• Youth 1 (11 years of age and below): Must handmake and fly your own kite.
• Youth 2 (12 to 15 years of age): Must handmake and fly your own kite.
• In a group with other youth: Must handmake and fly your own kite. A group of youths must design and make their own kite with limited adult assistance.
• Kit Kite: Must make a kite from a kit or at a workshop and fly your own kite.

If you would like to enter the DIY Kite Competition, please send an email to cherryblossomfestsubmissions@gmail.com with the following information:

• Whether you are an adult or youth.
• Which category you are entering.
• Pictures of your kite depicting all necessary angles. Remember: the more information you give, the better the judges will be able to appreciate your kite.
• A video of three minutes or less containing the kite and the person flying it.

Additionally, "DIY Kite" needs to appear in the subject line.

Porch Decoration Competition

 The National Cherry Blossom Festival is hosting a porch decoration contest! See rules and registration information below.

Registration Information

 If you would like to participate in the porch competition, please send a picture of your porch! You can also decorate anything from yards to windows. If everyday passersby can see it from the sidewalk or street in front of your house, you can enter it. The porch competition will be judged by block, so encourage neighbors to enter as well! More updates on the porch competition coming soon.

If you would like to enter the porch competition, please send an email to cherryblossomfestsubmissions@gmail.com with the following information:

• Picture(s) of your porch or decorated area
• A creative name for your display

Additionally, "Porch Competition" needs to appear in the subject line.
